1. COMPOSITE TO PARALLEL CONVERTER (CD10 Rev.2)

The CD10 Rev.2 converter board has an automatic input level adjustment and the different decoder

operation as Composite & Y/C mode selection, Comb filter ON / OFF... are controlled by an 8 DIP

switch.

People using those converters boards into EVS products ( CDC10 or CDC11 ) must take care of what

follows.

To offer high performance and to provide a perfect Composite Video Signal on the output of the DC10 or

DC11 boards, it is important that the incoming composite signal (source ) is fully conform to PAL/NTSC

standard.

Notably, the burst must have an amplitude of 300 +/- 9 mV and a duration of 2,25 +/- 0,23 µs ( 10 +/- 1

cycle ), and the amplitude of the line synchronising pulse must be 300 +/- 9 mV with a duration of 4,7 +/-

0,10 µs.

If those features are not respected, the outcoming composite signal would have wrong Chrominance

and Luminance levels.

1. VIDEO INPUTS

- Selection between standard composite input (Y+C+Sync on one signal) or S-VHS compatible input

(Y+Sync on one signal and C on an other signal) by dip switch 8.

- Secondary 4 pins Mini DIN connector (SVHS standard) for Y/C input.

- Video standard (PAL/NTSC/SECAM) automatic selection.

- Provision to accommodate unstable video signal from VCR and VCR flutter compensation

(DIP switch 6).

- 2-line NTSC combfilter/ 4-line PAL combfilter to give very wide Y bandwidth (5 MHz ± 0.3 dB) and very

high subcarrier rejection (>40 dB). If required, the combfilter can be disable using DIP switch 7.

- Full 8-bit digital processing at 27MHz to give high quality and for very high time stability (all processing

are made in digital including color decoding).

2. PARALLEL 422 OUTPUT

- 25 pin D-connector.

- According to CCIR Rec. 656.

- 8/10 bit compatible output (8-bit significant, 2 LSB bit forced to level "00".

- Serial 422 output as an option.

2. COMPOSITE TO PARALLEL CONVERTER ( CD10 Rev.3 )

The CD10 Rev.3 converter board has an automatic input level adjustment and the different decoder

operation as Composite & Y/C mode selection, Comb filter ON / OFF... are controlled by an 7-segment

display and 3 push buttons.

This automatic input level adjustment can be disable by the user and, in this case, the chrominance

level adjustment will be made by using the 7-segment display and the 3 push buttons, and the

luminance level adjustment by tuning a trim pot.

The automatic input level adjustment allows to be not dependant on the incoming signal level variations.

However, if it is enable, you must take care of what follows.

4. PARALLEL TO COMPOSITE CONVERTER ( DC10 )

1. INTRODUCTION

- The P2C board receives a parallel 422 input signal and encode this signal in a composite (PAL/NTSC)

video signal.

- The board include a 1H time base corrector to remove jitter and phase noise from the incoming digital

video input.

- The composite video output is locked on the provided reference signal (genlock input signal). The

horizontal and subcarrier phase are fully adjustable (-7/+12 µS for H and 360° for SC).

- The 422 digital video input signal do not need to have a very precise phase with respect to the

composite output phase requested. The 422 digital video input signal just need to be from 2 µS to 65

µS in advance on the composite output phase requested.

- The board delivers one video composite output (Y+C+S) and one S-VHS compatible Y/C output

(Y+S/C).

- All video processing including composite encoding are made in digital to give high performance and to

get a time invariant operation. The final conversion to analogue is made through 3 high performance 10-

bit D/A converters using 27 MHz oversampling technic to get perfect frequency response.

2. PARALLEL 422 INPUT

- 25 pin D-connector.

- According to CCIR Rec. 656.

6. SERIAL DIGITAL TO COMPOSITE CONVERTER ( DC12 )

0. INTRODUCTION

- The P2C board receives serial 422 input signal and encodes this signal in a composite (PAL/NTSC)

video signal.

- The board includes a 1H Time Base Corrector to remove jitter and phase noise from the incoming

digital

video input.

-When genlock mode is enabled, the composite video output is locked on the provided reference signal

(genlock input signal). The horizontal and subcarrier phase are fully adjustable (-7/+12 µS for H and

360° for SC). In this mode, the serial digital video input signal does not need to have a very precise

phase with respect to the composite output phase requested. The serial digital video input signal only

needs to be from 3 µS to 66 µS in advance on the composite output phase requested.

-When genlock is disabled, the composite video output is locked on the serial digital video input signal

and a delay of +/- 7 µS is introduced by the encoding process.

- The board delivers two video composite outputs (Y+C+S) and optionally Y/C, YUV and RGB outputs .

- All video processing including composite encoding are made in digital to give high performance and to

get a time invariant operation. The final conversion to analogue is made through high performance 10-

bit D/A converters using 27 MHz oversampling technic to get perfect frequency response.

1. CONNECTIONS

Connect the incoming SDI signal to the "Serial IN" BNC connector. The next connector ("Serial OUT")

is a reclocked loop-through of the input. Connect a video reference (CB/BB) to the "REF" BNC

connector. When the DC12 is used with a EVS Disk Recorder, the video reference must be the same

for both. The PAL/NTSC output signal is available on the "CVBS OUT1" connector. The remaining

BNC connector ("OUT2/LOOP") can be configured as a second PAL/NTSC output or as a loop-through

for the video reference (see block diagram below for jumper's configuration)

2. SERIAL DIGITAL INPUT WITH LOOP

- One BNC for input, one BNC for loop.

- Input impedance: 75..

- Active loop through with reclocking.

- Automatic cable equalization.

- 270 Mb/s serial input CCIR-601 compatible 525/625.

- 8/10 bit compatible input (10-bit significant)

- Serial 422 input available as an option.

Chroma filter according to CCIR Rec 624-3

Differential gain 0.9%

Differential phase 0.5%

- Optional piggy-back board for Y/C, YUV and RGB outputs.

5. SYNCHRONIZATION

- Video outputs are locked on the genlock video input signal sent to the board or locked on the serial

input signal (user selectable).

- Horizontal phase (video + sync phase) of the video output signal can be adjusted relatively to the

genlock input signal received: -7 µS to +12 µS per 2 nS step.

- Subcarrier phase of the video output signal, can be adjusted relatively to the genlock input signal

received: ± 180° per 0.3° step.

- 422 digital input signal can have any phase relatively to the genlock reference signal but to get correct

vertical phase the serial digital input signal must be from 3 µS to 66 µS in advance on the composite

output phase requested.

-When genlock is disabled, the composite video output is locked on the serial digital video input signal

and a delay of +/- 7 µS is introduced by the encoding process.
